From 1st to 3rd October 2025, the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Research Dissemination Conference (KUHeS RDC) was held at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre, once again proving to be a vibrant platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and scientific dialogue. Held under the theme “Multidisciplinary Health Research and Innovation: Key to Economic Development,” the conference brought together local and international researchers committed to advancing Malawi’s health research landscape.
On day one, WASHTED made contributions through oral presentation on “Mental Health Effects of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Conditions among Adolescents in Primary Schools in Malawi” made by Shadrick Masulani. This followed a poster presentation by Blessing White on “The Impact of Community-led Total Sanitation Interventions on Sanitation-related Quality of Life in Chiradzulu District, Malawi.”
On second day, Andrew Mnkhwamba presented on “Quantification of ESBL-producing E. coli and K. pneumoniae in Wastewater Treatment Plants and Perceived Health Risks in Blantyre, Malawi.” And lastly, Dyson Kazembe delivered “The Role of Plastic Bottle Re-use for Beverage Packaging in Transmission of ESBL E. coli and K. pneumoniae in Malawi.”
Looking Back, Moving Forward
As the 2025 KUHeS RDC came to an end, WASHTED celebrated the dedication, passion, and hard work of its team. Their presentations not only showcased rigorous research but also highlighted the urgent issues affecting communities across Malawi.
We are proud of the knowledge shared, the insights gained, and the collaborations strengthened throughout the conference. As we move forward, we remain committed to generating research that informs policy, transforms communities, and contributes to a healthier, more resilient Malawi.
