The Centre for Water, Sanitation, Health and Appropriate Technology Development (WASHTED) continued its commitment to community outreach and youth development through the distribution of donated items to students of Mfera Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) on 4 June 2026.
The donated items were provided by the Scottish charity organisation, Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi (FROM), and were officially handed over to the school by representatives from WASHTED. The donation included two complete sets of football uniforms for the school team, footballs, netballs, volleyballs, and duvets for female students residing in the school’s hostel.

The support comes at an important time for the school, particularly for the girls accommodated in the hostel that was constructed through the Scotland Chikwawa Health Initiative (SCHI), a project that played a significant role in improving educational and living conditions at Mfera CDSS. The provision of duvets will contribute to creating a more comfortable and supportive learning environment for the students.
Speaking during the handover, school representatives expressed their gratitude to both FROM and WASHTED for the continued support, noting that the donated sports equipment and uniforms will help promote student participation in extracurricular activities while fostering teamwork, discipline, and healthy lifestyles among learners.
The relationship between WASHTED and Mfera CDSS spans several years and was established through the implementation of the Scotland Chikwawa Health Initiative. Since the completion of the project, WASHTED has maintained close engagement with the school, supporting various initiatives aimed at improving student welfare, education, health, and community development.

As part of its outreach pillar, WASHTED remains committed to building and sustaining partnerships that create meaningful and lasting impacts in communities. The centre recognises that supporting education extends beyond the classroom and includes creating environments where students can thrive academically, socially, and physically.
WASHTED extends its sincere appreciation to Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi (FROM) for their generous donation and continued support towards improving the lives of young people in Malawi. Such collaborations demonstrate the power of partnerships in advancing educational opportunities and promoting the well-being of vulnerable communities.
Together, WASHTED, FROM, and Mfera CDSS continue to work towards a future where every student has access to the resources and opportunities needed to reach their full potential.
