Climate change is not only a health, environmental, or socioeconomic crisis, it is also a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) crisis…….

Yet another inspiring day for WASHTED as we join global experts in addressing critical challenges affecting the WASH sector worldwide.

As the UNC 2025 Water and Health Conference continues, the WASHTED Centre manager, Dr. Chidziwisano participated in a side event facilitated by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Reckitt Global Hygiene Institute (RGHI). The session brought together a distinguished panel featuring experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), the University of Leeds, WaterAid and Malawi University of Business and Sciences (through WASHTED) to discuss how climate change impacts water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

Drawing on experiences from Malawi, Dr. Chidziwisano shared evidence showing how climate-related events such as cyclones disrupt the sustainability of sanitation and hygiene gains achieved through interventions, highlighting the urgent need for resilient WASH systems in the face of a changing climate.

The discussion underscored the urgent need for a shared global research agenda to tackle the growing intersection between climate change, hygiene, and health.

At WASHTED, we remain dedicated to advancing research that drives innovation and strengthens resilient WASH systems for all.
