WASHTED Completes Field Data Collection on Caregivers’ Health-Seeking Behaviour in Machinga

WASHTED, in collaboration with World Vision Malawi, has completed field data collection for a study titled “Understanding Caregivers’ Health-Seeking Behaviour for Under-Five Children in Maternal and Child Health Programs in Malawi.”

The study seeks to deepen understanding of the factors shaping caregivers’ decisions when seeking healthcare for children under five. Insights from this research will guide strategies to strengthen community-based health interventions and improve service delivery within maternal and child health programmes.

Fieldwork took place in Machinga District, focusing on the Chamba and Mbonechera Area Development Programs (ADPs). Between 26 January and 1 February 2026, the research team engaged 384 caregivers, conducted 16 key informant interviews with district health officials, World Vision managers and coordinators, and local community leaders, and held 4 focus group discussions (FGDs) to capture community perspectives and shared experiences. This comprehensive approach ensures that diverse voices (from individual caregivers to district-level stakeholders) will be represented in the findings.

The successful completion of data collection demonstrates WASHTED’s continued commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based consultancy and research services that support partners like World Vision Malawi. The insights generated from this study will contribute to strengthening maternal and child health programming and inform policy
