The NIHR-GHRG on Adolescent Health & Wellbeing in Malawi team had a session on Wednesday on meaningful engagement of young people in research. The project is a collaborative work between Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences- MUBAS, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences and The University of Strathclyde – Civil & Environmental Engineering Dept.
Held in Lilongwe, Malawi, on 18–20 August 2026, under the theme “Accelerating Progress: Reflecting on Impact, Expanding Prospects for Youth Development in Malawi.” The team shared lessons and approaches for meaningful adolescent engagement in research, exploring how adolescents can be engaged across the research journey.
From photovoice, storyline, art, and co-design to implementation and dissemination. Participants also experienced intergenerational dialogue firsthand, resulting in reflection on how young people and adults can listen and work together to co-create interventions that matter to adolescents.
