On this World Water Day, we spoke to one of our team members about the theme “leveraging water for peace.” Here’s what they shared:
“Growing up, water was a crucial part of daily life. I remember fetching water from boreholes, a task shared by boys and girls alike. Sometimes, conflicts would arise at the water point due to long queues, highlighting the importance of access to water. These conflicts often required intervention from village chiefs for resolution. This small-scale experience highlights how limited water access can lead to conflicts. Conversely, improving access to water is a pathway to peace. With water scarcity increasing globally due to climate change, lessons from village life are relevant on a larger scale”
Let’s preserve and harness water for peace, from our communities to the world. #WorldWaterDay #WaterForPeace
