Climate Connect

Climate Connect

Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) through WASHTED participated in an initiative called Climate Connect that brought together staff, PhD students and undergraduate students from across the world in discussing climate change and sustainable development related issues. Participating Universities included: University of Waterloo (Canada); University of Strathclyde (UK); KTH (Sweden), Stellenbosch University (SA), Peking University (China) and MUBAS (Malawi)

Objectives of the initiative were:

  • To provide an opportunity for students and staff from across Universities to hear different disciplinary perspectives
  • Build international perspectives and develop friendships and networks across the world
  • Develop skills which are highly desirable with future employers
  • Learn more about “your” role in the climate and sustainable development challenges and challenge some current beliefs and thoughts
  • Engage with others in discourse around activism and actions around climate change and sustainable development

The initiative ran from October 2021 to February 2022. Students from each university completed different assignments that were tailor made to provide opportunities for networking; provide an understanding of how different countries are being affected by and tackling climate change and sustainable development. Outputs of the initiative were in the form of videos, power point presentations, group and individual climate pledges that can be found here
