From 26th to 27th March 2024, MUBAS through WASHTED Centre participated in a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in healthcare facilities learning event organised by WaterAid at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe. The event focused on learning through sharing experiences from researchers, implementors and other stakeholders to achieve tangible and sustainable outcomes in promoting WASH in healthcare facilities.
WASHTED researchers participated at the event through making a presentation based on research the centre conducted in Guardian Waiting Shelters (GWS) and later participated in a panel discussion which focused on how integral GWS are in healthcare delivery and how to improve the current unpleasant status of these GWS. This attracted an interesting debate on who owns the GWS; it was concluded that there is a need for clear policy on how GWS should be managed.
The two days event was graced by the Minister of Health, chairperson of the parliamentary committee on health, first deputy speaker of parliament, deputy director responsible for health promotion, members of parliament, Ministry of Health PS responsible for reforms, Chief Sanitation Officer from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, directors, among others.
